Apron goodness...

Sorry to have been so negligent, fellow Apronistas-between the fires out here in California, and Eren relishing a much-needed visit from her darling husband, we have been a couple of busy mamas...we are starting a new weekly feature called "Apron Goodness", and it will just be fun, informative, or interesting links to aprons all over. PLUS, if you want to participate, email us or comment with the link to yours or someone else's site, and we will try to get it up the following week!

First off, I want to let you know that next week we will be giving away a Heavenly Hostess Apron right here! Just in time for the Holiday season, Cynthia is giving away a Holiday Hostess Apron PLUS a secret goodie we will reveal next week. So stop by on Monday for all the details!

Just FYI- you still have another week to get your local pride Aprons over to Angry Chicken for this month's Tie One On Project. If you really want to swoon, check out the collection of all the Tie One On Galleries.

Next, we have the absolute pleasure to be welcoming EllynAnne Geisel to our little site as a contributor. She will be posting periodically as well as writing on her own blog that I'm helping her set up. I can't wait to see what this Apronista has to share with us!

Check out Joyful Abode's Swoon-worthy collection of Vintage Aprons for sale...SO adorable!

Then, this morning I came across this cute little site written by Amanda, who has a shop called Butterfly Blue on Etsy...she has a charming collection of aprons, and links to tutorials and patterns.

This is an interesting article on how wearing Aprons helps us "dress" for the parts we play in the home...

On that note, I have a question for you, fellow Apronistas...do you actually WEAR aprons on a daily basis? Do you have different Aprons for different tasks? Ever since I made that apron inspired by Liz's Everyday Apron (what I am choosing to call mine anyway... :) ), I find myself wearing it ALMOST every day, since I can tuck my phone(email/lifeline device) into one pocket, a little notebook, a pen, my keys if we go somewhere, my wallet, etc...plus I can tuck a towel in the waistband if I am cooking for wiping my hands...which seems to stay in there all day as well-comes in handy for wiping dirty little hands too!

Vintage Inspired Apron Dresses

I usually try to bring you vintage aprons that I find on my travels, in thrift stores or more recently, those gifted to me by my family. But when I came across these 1940's inspired apron dresses in the Apronista flickr group, I about fell over sideways. Literally.

They were added to the Apronista flickr pool by Malphi and her profile lead me to her new blog Frills, Frocks, and Fancies. The apron dresses are gorgeous in their own right, but her photographs are simply stunning.

Her about page says that she "particularly enjoys the homilness and nostalgia of making aprons." But I have to tell you these aprons are anything but homly. They are gorgeous and immediately transport you to the past. I love them.

Malphi's Sewing Kits

Malphi is in the process of putting together apron kits, pre cut pieces of fabric, ready to sew for novices who would like to bypass the patterns and cutting. And the kits will soon be offered on her website which is currently under development. And we at The Apronista will add the link here as soon as the kits are available.

A (great) little post about an Apron...

I just knew the minute I saw this apron made by Liz of Be Present, Be Here, I had to share it with you...it inspired me so much I made one of my own, which if I ever find the extra batteries for my camera I will share with you! Here it is in her words... (thanks Liz!!)

"There is something delightful about custom-making a creation just for yourself. You see the piece in your mind and imagine the little touches you want it to have and picture where you will wear it or put it in your home. With each stitch, you know you are making a gift for yourself. You can sigh with less frustration when you have to undo mistakes you might make along the way. You can smile with that "oh it is perfect" smile when you put it on or place it where it belongs.Last month, I created an apron just for me...

I wanted a skirt look, so I made it large enough to meet at my waist in the back. The front pocket closes with Velcro, so that it can hold my wallet or needlecase and seam ripper or change when it becomes my cashbox of sorts when I sell my creations at shows. I added the side pocket at just the right length to rest my hand inside it and to have access to whatever I might need.I have found it to be the perfect accessory when I run errands, especially when my hands are full. Like today when I needed to mail nine packages and fill out five custom forms and other things at the post office.

The top pocket held my wallet, Starbucks card (because morning PO runs means stopping at the drive-thru Starbucks, and today, I had the chance to drink up my first pumpkin spice latte of the season), and other items needed for the packages. The side pocket held my cell phone and keys. I felt like quite the apronista. I am also going to wear it when I go antiquing and thrifting. The pockets will easily hold my measuring tape, notepad, pencil, and other necessities, so that I don't need to find a place to put my purse when I need to measure something or open linens to check for stains or gasp with delight when I need to pick up the perfectly pleated vintage apron, like this one. (I had to get it. I just had to. Those pleats remind me of the kilts I wore for four years of boarding school back in Indiana. Love. Those. Pleats.)"
(see the rest of this post, including the adorable vintage apron, here...)
